Lucy Wanzer
I am a PhD student in Earth and Planetary Sciences studying physical oceanography and glaciology. I grew up in the state of Maine and obtained my Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College, where I studied Geosciences. After college, I spent a year abroad in Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, studying small-boat fisheries, ocean policy, and coastal communities.
I then taught high school field science for two years, focusing on place-based education on the coast of Maine, where I discovered my passion for teaching and mentoring. I obtained my Master of Science from Oregon State University, where I studied ice-ocean interactions in Antarctica and Alaska. At Harvard, I continue my polar science research, focusing on North Atlantic oceanography and ice-ocean interactions in Greenland. I love to be on the water or in the forest, and I thrive on connective conversations.
