Hello everyone! My name is Francesco, and I was born and raised in a 400-person village on the Italian Alps. I grew up hiking, touring, and skiing, and learned to recognize edible mushrooms and plants. After a brief stint in Colorado during high school, I stumbled my way into Harvard College and studied Social Studies and Molecular and Cellular Biology. I was an EMT and, importantly, a very involved member of the Adams House Community! After college, I stopped by the University of Oxford to get a Master in Migration Studies, and learned to row in the meantime (I will forever be scared of bumps racing). While applying to medical school, I took a detour working with an international NGO focused on healthcare system strengthening in Tanzania, and lived in Mwanza for 6 months. But, alas, Boston clearly has a grip on me, so here I am pursuing an MD-PhD at HMS and the Harvard Anthropology Department. I have completed two years of medical school, and this is my first year as a full-time PhD student. My research generally focuses on global systems of movement, migration, and international surveillance, especially as they relate to infectious disease and climate change. When not in Longwood or Tozzer, I try to spend time exploring the outdoors, or cooking and baking, so please share your favorite recipes! Stop by Hampden 32 to try my latest culinary experiments or wild Alpine chamomile tea!

You can reach out to me to ask for career advice about non-traditional MD-PhD pathways and global health!
