How the fake media covers fake news from a fake administration in a fake democracy, and other tales of woe.

Kevin Cullen is an author and columnist for The Boston Globe and has been a member of the SCR since 2002, when he was a Nieman Fellow. At the Globe, he has served as a local, national and foreign correspondent. He headed the Globe's bureaus in Dublin and, later, London, where he was chief European correspondent from 1997 to 2001, covering the wars in the former Yugoslavia. He covered the conflict in Northern Ireland for more than 20 years, trading stories with gunmen and, occasionally, drinking whiskey with Seamus Heaney. He was a member of the Globe's investigative team that won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for exposing the coverup of sexual abuse of minors by Roman Catholic priests, and part of the Globe team that won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news for coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings. He is the only person to twice win the Batten Medal from the American Society of Newspaper Editors for writing about the poor and marginalized. Separately, he won the Mike Royko Award as best newspaper columnist in 2014 as chosen by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. He was named best newspaper columnist by the National Headliners Awards in 2010 and 2014 and by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2016. He is co-author of The New York Times bestseller "Whitey Bulger: America's Most Wanted Gangster and the Manhunt that Brought Him to Justice," and co-author of "Betrayal:The Crisis in the Catholic Church." For many years, he served as a mistake-prone defenseman for the Adams IM hockey team and an unapologetic Manchester United supporter.
